Linux is freakin‘ fast

I have a raspberry pi with the standard raspberry pi OS on it. I use this peace of Hardware basically as an office and email device for when i come home in the evening and just have to do some quick organizational stuff, check work mails, document work hours and so on. Over the last half year or so this device took over more and more of the tasks I used to use my macbook for before I got the raspberry pi. I had older versions of the raspberry pi to tinker around, but they were slow and sluggish, but when I bought myself a raspberry pi 5 I just naturally started to use it for everyday stuff because it just feels good to use. Everything is kind of simple and still snappy.

Today however I installed Kdenlive on the Pi to try if I could edit videos on the device and I was surprised how long it took to transcode a simple 720p video file. My old 2019 macbook does this in about 30 to 40 seconds and the Pi took about 20 minutes. This really put into perspective for me both how underpowered the Pi still actually is even compared to old PC hardware and at the same time how performant Linux is, because my old macbook that just plows through tasks like this sometimes really stutters along when trying to navigate the OS. It is astounding both how bloated MacOS has become and how efficient Linux is. Maybe Ill just install a Linux partition on my laptop as this is still possible without much fuss on older Intel Macs.
